Who Owns Nissan?

Nissan is one of the most popular automotive producers in North America and around the world. The Japanese brand is known for creating innovative, reliable, and quality vehicles that are athletic and stylish. With a range of body styles from sports cars to pickup trucks, Nissan has become a household name with vehicles for all lifestyles. But the question remains: who owns Nissan? Keep reading to find out!

Nissan is a part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance and has been since 1999. However, this isn’t where Nissan originated. Nissan Motor Corporation has been around since the beginning of the 20th century, with its first model produced in 1935 in Japan. After this, Nissan continued to gain popularity across the globe. The brand soon arrived in the United States in 1958 under what would eventually be called “Datsun.” Datsun models started gaining popularity in Canada in the 1960s. However, production was quite limited.

Nissan Automobile Canada was then founded in Vancouver in 1965, still producing vehicles under the name Datsun. Eventually, Nissan moved its Canadian headquarters to Ontario in the 1980s and dropped the Datsun name on export models for the original Nissan branding. Now, Nissan has gained worldwide popularity due to leadership and marketing changes. Currently, Nissan is majorly owned by French car giant Renault, which maintains significant control over the operations of Nissan and the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.

With the release of Nissan’s latest models in Canada, including the 2023 ARIYA, 2023 Z, 2023 Rogue, and the 2023 Frontier, the Japanese brand is on track to become one of the leading car brands in the world. Contact us for more information about the Nissan brand or to learn more about our available models here at Alta Nissan Richmond Hill.
